Christ is bent under the weight of the cross and is pulled onwards with a rope by one of the henchmen. Christ looks behind him where a group with the Virgin and St John are pushed to the left edge of the painting by other rogues. He returns the veil

Christ is bent under the weight of the cross and is pulled onwards with a rope by one of the henchmen. Christ looks behind him where a group with the Virgin and St John are pushed to the left edge of the painting by other rogues. He returns the veil to St Veronica with the impression of his face. A group of horsemen accompany the procession. Further in the distance the cross has already been erected on Calvary.
