In accordance with the legend he [Cranach] depicts the saint being pursued by her father, who together with some men on horseback looks for her in the open countryside. In accordance with the legend he [Cranach] depicts the saint being pursued by her father, who together with some men on horseback looks for her in the open countryside. [...] Cranach, who painted full-length figures of female saints on wing panels chooses a half-length figure for this private devotional image and she is show arrestingly close to the viewer [...]. Her loose hair defines her as a virgin, the numerous chains indicate her noble origins, the affirming gesture of her hand on her chest reveals her strong beliefs. Her wine red dress appears iridenscent in the light and exhibits a rich arrangement of folds. [...] The background landscape showing rocky outcrops, trees and a castle illustrates Cranach's vibrant appreciation of nature.
