The lion - his attribute - stands at his side.

DESCRIPTION

Tools/Material:

- fluid, black medium, brush

Type/Ductus:

- relatively freehand underdrawing; the careful execution of the outlines suggests the use of some type of template

- thin lines

- occasional hatching-strokes in the background

Function:

- relatively binding for the final painted version; the lines delineate the main contours, describe the essential details within forms and define the facial features

Deviations:

- minor adjustments were made to the forms during the painting process
