In this vertical composition the nymph is shown lying naked on a red cloth. Behind her the spring gushes out of a rock cave into a stream. Two partridges are represented in the foreground and beneath there is an admonition not to disturb the nymph.

A version of this vertical composition is known in a private collection [PRIVATE_NONE-P503]. It is smaller and dated to about 1526. Unlike the present version it does not bear the inscription ‘FONTIS NYMPHA SACRI SOMNVM NE RVMPE QVIESCO.'
