Three naked women with children and three men and a satyr are set against a thick frieze of foliage, extending on the left almost to the top of the picture. The central and right-hand parts of the hedge are lower, revealing a landscape with high mountains and a town. In the foreground on the left one of the men is shown grabbing a woman from the satyr's embrace. A second man stands behind, observing the event with a stick resting on his shoulder, while the third is shown lying in the foreground at centre of the image. The other two women are standing at the right, one catches the terrified gaze of the woman being fought over and the other looks out at the viewer. A young boy and a baby cower around their legs, and a second baby sucks on the breast of the woman at the right.
