Artist's insignia on the left above the shoulder: winged serpent with dropped wings and dated '1538'; in black paint [cda, 2012]
The painting depicts a portrait of a man in a black brocade gown with a white pleated shirt visible at the neckline; he has a black hat on his head. The sitter is shown facing right; his brown beard is trimmed straight beneath his chin, while his moustache extends out quite far on either side. The background is a neutral light blue colour.
