The wing panel illustrates three scenes from the Passion, arranged vertically.

Centre: the mocking of Christ

The wing panel illustrates three scenes from the Passion, arranged vertically.

Top: Christ kneels on the Mount of Olives, an angel holding a chalice floats down towards him, three apostles sleep in the foreground. Between two rocky outcrops a detailed townscape is visible in the background.

Centre: the mocking of Christ in an austere interior. The ruffians encircle and taunt the seated Christ, who is enveloped in a red robe and has been mockingly crowned with thorns. A further four men watch the event through an open window in the background.

Bottom: on the way to Golgotha Christ falls under the weight of the cross. He looks back to the group of mourners with the Virgin and St John, who are derided by the ruffians. Simon of Cyrene, who helped Christ carry the cross is also visible.
