A full-length representation of the Virgin in prayer, an iconography that is often referred to as the Mother of Sorrows because she is shown sharing the suffering of her son. The Virgin stands against a dark background on stony ground and is turned to the right. At some stage the panel was split and the recto depicting scenes from the Passion is now an autonomous panel. Together they originally functioned as the right wing of a triptych.
