Underdrawing

Results

Drawing material:

- mainly dry, possible also fluid

Technique:

- The underdrawing is executed in an economic and sketchy manner with a dry material, sweeping lines fix the main forms without cross-hatching; it serves only as an aid for the painted version, in other words there are numerous differences e.g. the angel at the front of the group on the right [1]

- particularly to describe the figures of the angels but also the contours of Christ's torso as well as the contours and essential features of the face; drawing of the left hand including fingers

- underdrawing in a fluid medium may be assumed for example in the contours of the upper lip

- Alterations: the scourge was originally positioned higher in the left hand
