Technique:

- The detailed underdrawing, which was executed with a brush, is only visible in some areas because it is obscured by the dark paint application; masterly design of the faces of Christ and Peter; linear indication of the contours, the main element within the forms are indicated with hooks and cresent-shaped arcs.[1]

- further underdrawing: the hair of Christ, Judas, Peter and the facial expression of the soldiers next to them, furthermore the hands of Christ and Peter, the contours and details of the left leg of Malchus, the neckline of Christ's robe, the folds on Judas' robe and the armor of the soldiers around them (for example the rivits in the helmet of the soldier with a torch at the bottom), the rope around Christ's neck, Peter's sword

  • reinforced (left half) over the entire height, fixed with two dowels, the dowels are visible on the front

  • there are dowels visible in the rectangular gaps on the left and right edge of the reinforcement

  • woodworm damage (open channels)

Painted surface:

  • split at the bottom edge

  • isolated small retouches, particularly in the sky and in the bottom left corner

  • paint discolouration in the robe of the figure in the centre of the foreground

  • thick, uneven varnish
