Technique:

- not clear: thin lines indicating the contours of forms in a dry material (in the face: the eyes, the mouth and beard, the ears and some parts of the armor); under the stereomicroscope brown lines are visible, which were executed with a brush, these may also belong to the underdrawing; deviations in the subsequently painted version are visible on the right elbow, the left breastplate and on the earlobe (slightly larger in the painted version).[1]

- double chain over the breastplate, which was covered at a later stage by a yellow sash, compare the Portrait RK H74, Elector Moritz of Sachsen

• abrasion and small paint losses, particularly in the face and the armor

• retouching along the bottom edge of the painting and on the tear below the stomach
