Technique:

The underdrawing is executed in a dry material, disciplined drawing (possibly transferred from a template) in the face, freer drawing in the hands, with slight deviations in the painted version; only a few lines are visible in the robe, architecture indicated with lines, the sitter’s hat was made smaller during the painting process. [1]

Further underdrawing is visible along the outlines of the beard, minor corrections in the right thumb, simple lines employed to roughly indicate the part of the robe between the thighs, corrections to the right foot
