- The underdrawing is clearly visible: lines indicate details of the face, hair and headdress or the scales on the bonnet, as well as the necklace and the neck line of the dress [1]

- the position of the hands has been corrected: alterations on the thumb of the right hand and the index finger of the left hand

- the folds at the bottom of the dress, the sword or the point of the sword and single stones on the ground

Underdrawing

The brush drawing is limited to the contours, there are scant lines within the face to indicate the eyes and mouths with a dry material, partially very rough and not binding for the forms and details finally executed in paint, eg. the scales on the bonnet, the necklace and the neck line of the dress, the handle of the sword, the hand on the wheel and the folds at the bottom of the dress

  • marks from a saw along the top and bottom edges of the panel

  • the joins and splits have been reinforced with wooden blocks along the bottom edge

  • there is a piece of canvas over a fill on the left edge

  • marks from nails employed to fix the panel in its frame

  • minimal amount of woodworm damage

  • the panel exhibits a convex warp on the painted side (1 cm)

Painted surface:

  • isolated retouches

  • the bottom left corner has been reconstructed

  • old, very yellowed varnish
