The underdrawing, which is carried out with a broad brush is limited to the contours, there are only scant lines within the face; modifications made during the painting process: the bodice is tied in a different way and the diamond pattern on the white cloth was not executed in paint.

  • splits along the bottom edge

  • marks from a saw along the top edge of the panel

  • the joins and splits have been reinforced with wooden blocks along the top and bottom edges, the plane marks under the blocks are lighter

  • there is a piece of canvas over a fill on the right edge of the panel

  • traces of the nails used to fit the panel in its frame

  • the panel exhibits a convex warp on the painted side (1 cm)

  • minimal amount of woodworm damage (exit holes in the third plank)

Painted surface:

  • retouching in the background on the left and along the joins

  • old, yellowed varnish
