In addition to the ox and the ass two putti have gathered around the trough. In the background the annunciation to the shepherds can be seen and one of the shepherds is already approaching the stable shown here in the form of a stone construction.

Drawing material:

- fluid (brush)

Technique:

- Detailed drawing executed with a brush and with few repeated strokes and crescent shaped arcs and hooks; there are deviations from the underdrawing in the painted version, particularly in the rendering on the wall in the background (possibly due to an underpainting which is no longer visible), in the Virgin’s face, which is slightly larger and inclined and in the contours of the faces of the angels next to the crib. [1]

- further underdrawing: faces, hair, hands and clothes of the Virgin and Joseph, face and body of the Christ Child with a correction on the left leg, as well as the heads of the animals, the ground in the foreground has single stones and vegetation that was not executed in paint
