Cardinal Albrecht of Brandenburg, Prince of Mainz (1490 - 1545) as St Jerome. The Cardinal who is surrounded by forest animals sits between bushes and writes on a table supported by logs. A lion rests at his feet. The Cardinal's hat hangs on a tree to the left. The cross rises to the right. A caravan, which stole the cloister donkey and was chased away by the lion, enters the cloister on a hill in the middle distance.

2010Technical examination / Scientific analysis

  • Identification of wood species / Dendrochronology

Support

- the panel (thickness: 0.8 cm) consists of 3 horizontal planks. The joins are glued. The annual rings were counted on the right and left side of each plank. The wood species is beech and not lime. The top plank has 123/122 annual rings, the middle one 69/70 and dthe bottom one 109/106.

- extensive woodworm, well glued.

According to the most recent examination carried out by Dr. Peter Klein the three planks are from the same tree as those used for the following paintings:

- DE_KBSB_B60_FR312-313C

- DE_KBSB_B59_FR312-313C
